POETRY NEWS Updated: May 02, 2008 Here's a link to Crane's Bill Books in Albuquerque, NM. They're curently publishing books by Todd Moore, Mera Wolf & David Abel. Here's the link: Crane's Bill Books, Albuquerque NM USA Hi all A while back I recommended a poetry reading at Beyond Baroque for WS Gainer and Nila Northsun. Now you can catch a bit of the reading by going to YouTube. Special thanks to Bill Gainer for converting my footage into something interesting. Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCrJwXkPBmw and check it out! -- Raindog Word and Song Smith www.lummoxpress.com Friends I just got the new Poesy Magazine <www.poesy.org> in the mail and I have to tell you that Brian Morrissey has really done a nice job this time around! Poesy used to be printed on newsprint and was a sixteen page full size mag with poems and photos, an interview and some reviews. It was interesting but the quality of the paper sometimes made it hard to read. Brian has taken Poesy into a new age with crisp graphics and photos and a much nicer format in terms of the overall layout. In other words, it is a fine looking mag that almost resembles an art mag. I may be old- fashioned, but I like to see a book / mag that presents the work in a thoughtful and well-crafted way...a style that sets it apart from other small press presentations. The poems and other articles make it a real reading pleasure. Overall, Poesy raises the bar for other mag and even chapbook publishers to follow. Well done! You can order a sample copy by going to the Poesy website. Also you may want to submit poems/reviews for future publication. -- Raindog Word and Song Smith www.lummoxpress.com PEACE POEMS A workshop A collaborative writing-words-of-peace workshop with Gianina Opris of Denver, and Debbi Brody of Santa Fe will be held at Debbi's home on May 3rd 2008. Through visual imagery, guided writing and word mining, participants will leave the approximately two hour workshop with a minimum of one small "peace piece." We will spend two hours participating in consciously raising the collective unconscious's positive thoughts about self, others, the world and its peace potential. Come prepared to relax, enjoy and share. We will have an opportunity to read our words at an open reading later the same day. Workshop time: 2-4pm A $5 donation for the visiting author is suggested. Please phone Debbi at 603-5930 or email her at artqueen58@aol.com to sign up and to get directions to her home. Gianina Opris is a native of Lima, Perú who lives in Denver. We wouldn't go out of our way to have others stick their noses up at us. Many dabble around with the words "Hate me!" but no one meant it more than punk rock singer- songwriter GG Allin. He was born Jesus Christ Allin to a religious and antisocial man who claimed an angel had visited him and told him that his son was to be a great man in the vein of the Messiah. His older brother had trouble pronouncing his name properly and called him "Jeje", which later on became GG. His father, who didn't allow any talking in the house after dark, was reportedly physically and sexually abusive and mentally unstable. GG didn't use this as an excuse. He was a misfit on his own. In school he was placed in special ed classes and held back a year. Under the influence of the New York Dolls, he took his 11th grade school picture in drag. His early music career started with him as a drummer. His first role as front man began with the Jabbers who recorded many tracks. In 1980 he released his first album, Always Was, Is and Always Shall Be. It was an album much like his influences Iggy Pop and Stiv Bators. It was a mix of pop and hardcore punk that was danceable. Shortly after it's release, the Jabbers broke up and Allin's drug use began. He started front many acts during this period, varying from the Cedar Street Sluts, the Scumfucs, and the Texas Nazis. In the mid-1980s he was a heroin user, alcoholic and abuser of anything around him. He started eating laxatives before his performances. Eating and drinking his own shit became a regular act for him. He claimed that he was "the last true rock and roller". He's also one of the very few true Outlaws in the music industry. He was anti-authority, corporation and business. He idolized Hank Williams Sr. and saw them both as kindred spirits. Both were loners and outsiders, habitual users of intoxicants, and lived with few possessions. He released an EP The Troubled Troubadour that was heavily influenced by Williams. He recorded his own rewrites of Hank Williams Jr.'s "Family Tradition" and David Allan Coe's "Longhaird Redneck" which he called "Scumfuc Tradition" and "Outlaw Scumfuc". Unwilling to seek employment he started selling his own records and commiting crimes such as robbery, breaking and entering, and mugging. He wrote and visited John Wayne Gacy in prison and Gacy painted a portrait of Allin. His constant touring was only stopped by his jail time or his long hospital stays. Another attraction that pulled audiences in was Allin's threats of Suicide. In 1988 he said that he would commit suicide on Halloween in 1989. He ended up in jail when the day came. He continued to make the threats each Halloween. When asked about the suicide and the shit he said, "With GG, you don't get what you expect—you get what you deserve." Despite his threats of suicide he died of a heroin overdose in New York City in 1993. At his funeral, his corpse was dressed his black leather jacket and his jock strap. A bottle of Jim Beam was beside him, as he wished in his country ballad "When I Die". His other request was for the mortician not to wash his body or apply any makeup. The funeral became a wild party. His friends starting posing with his corpse and pouring whiskey and drugs into his mouth. GG was a true Outlaw. He lived and did whatever he wanted on his own terms. He took the world head on without a bulletproof vest. He wasn't known for his insightful lyrics or his body of musical work, but he had the courage to not take no for an answer. To look everyone in the eye and say "Fuck you!" And if you're looking for the last Rock and Roller then look no further

LUCIFER'S DOCTORS By Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal Queen Victoria sent me to this asylum. Jesus Christ sent his best angels to combat Lucifer's doctors. I was born in a stable in Israel in the roaring twenties. I was born to be a gangster and playboy. I leave a gift for the nurses every morning in my diapers. Their job is a dirty one. I salute their hard work. I eat food from the garbage because it is a sin to be wasteful. I hate it how people throw good food away. The saints anoint my head with blessed water from the fountain of youth. I am immortal in this old man's body.
THE IMBECILES By Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal I saw the imbeciles just standing there, their hands in their pockets not giving a care for the dying calling out for help at their feet. I saw the imbeciles walking over those who asked for help, most of them dead or about to die, and the imbeciles only walked much harder. I saw the imbeciles following each other over a cliff into the rocks below. They just kept falling like the imbeciles they were.
LIVING IN SQUALOR By Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal Living in squalor, Without anything Edible at home, Unless you like to Eat garbage, bugs, And insects. The old Woman denied there Was anything wrong With her or her home. The trash was piled up To the ceiling, a Monument of sorts to The God of hoarding. In the hospital She crept into the Rooms of her peers. She took their things and Began a new pile Of stuff in her room. She wore the boots of A man, unlaced, and Many inches too Big for her small feet. She looked the doctor In the eye and said I have never been Treated for mental Illness in my life. She said to him she Would not take one step Inside his office. She said if she did, That would mean she was His patient. She said She did not need a Psychiatrist. She Asked for the phone To call her lawyer, But she could not dial The right number or Remember his name. The old woman stood Defiant in her Room, defecating and Urinating all Over her self. She Claimed she did not need Diapers because she Was not a baby.
IN SEARCH OF A TOE TOUCHING HEALER By Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal I am in need of a Toe touching healer To ease my pain. I need a positive force To erase my Sad memories. On the side of the road in A vast desert I walk in search Of all these things. Coyotes And snakes prefer To walk away Instead of making me Friend or prey. I Am in need of A spiritual tow truck Driver to tow My car back home. I don't want to be found in This cruel desert Where the wind calls And whispers my name laughing. I touch my toes To heal myself. But it is useless to do So because I Can't feel my toes.
TIRED OF PEOPLE By Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal I am just waiting here for a home to look after me. If anyone comes here looking for a fight, let's roll then. I have no qualms purging evil people from this crazed world. If someone wants to take me home, I'm ready to go too. I am tired of people who just want to screw with my life. I am tired of people who want to give me a hard time. My family tells lies about me. I'm tired of their shit. I wish they could just quit talking nonsense to the doctor. I have no fantasies of death, murder, or destruction. I might write stories. But that's all it is. It is fiction. I wouldn't kill a fly that didn't have it coming, man. My neighbors should die. But that's just my honest opinion.
"In My Mind" By Matt Finney The Outlaw in my mind doesn't know what the E! Channel is. He's never seen Brad Pitt dress up and play one of the baddest. All he knows is Albuquerque air in his lungs and the heat in his blood. His shadow's as heavy as his boots. His second cock is in the holster and he's not afraid of showing it. Either one, that is. But what goes on in my mind and reality are two totally different things.
